Monday, November 1st - Already!

Thought you might like to see some pictures from Halloween... A lot of them didn't turn out with the webcam, so we're re-taking this afternoon so they can be emailed off to family members...

Here's my oldest, Robert, who was a Mad Scientist:

Miss Abbi was a beautiful butterfly. Too bad you can't see her skirt - she decided yesterday morning that she wanted one instead of pants. That required a quick trip to Wal Mart, and a session with the sewing machine...

And my baby, Matthew - the Super Hero Fan...

We didn't stay at the apartments for Halloween because they had a no trick or treat rule here, so we went out to a friend's place instead. I decided to dress up, too, to hand out candy. I was going to be either a Spa Princess or a TV Zombie...

I just didn't have my tiara on yet in this picture! I hope everyone else had as much fun as we did... I think Robert has a chocolate hangover this morning!

A special thank you to Megan & Melissa for the Halloween E-Cards! :)

Gorgeous Weather & What Does the Knitting Future Hold?!?!!?

For a place that has snow on the ground, it sure has been gorgeous here the last few days! A little on the crispy side, but as long as the sun continuously shines, nothing else matters! And the weatherman is talking chinook for Friday, so who knows, maybe the snow will be gone by Halloween...

I finished the movies star scarf, & as soon as I get a decent picture of it I'm going to need your vote of fringe or no fringe. I can't decide. The whole family is split on the issue. :)

I've been thinking a lot about my knitting future, as in after Christmas Knitting, what do I really want to accomplish? So I've got a small-ish list

  • Knitting with dpns - but something really easy to start with...
  • Knitting a couple of Debbie Bliss patterns - specifically baby & children ones
  • Felting! I'm a non-purse person, but LOVE the French Market & Booga Bags. I could own a few of those...

    Well, that's a start, anyway...

Have a Happy Wednesday - Enjoy the Day!

    Is It Bedtime Yet?

Not the smartest of things, but I drank a lot of ginger-steeped tea before bed, stayed up until midnight, woke up at 4am, and am now ready to go back to bed... I may try to convince Matty to have a nap after lunch so I can have one, too... Since he's three, and very much like his Momma (stubborn) I don't know if that's going to happen...

Being fairly new in the realm of knitting means having to train my hubby. He's been fairly good at enabling me so far... "Wow, you learned that quick... You're already on the next row?... Do you want to try something else?..." But now he proclaims he doesn't understand my fascination with yarn, and why I have so many different knitting needles, and how can I spend a Saturday morning reading over a hundred knitting blogs... I have so much to teach him.

On the movie star scarf front, I frogged it and re-started it yesterday. It was about 2 inches too wide, and looked like a big furry animal. I'll be the first to say that the blues are pretty - and it is a nice yarn - but am I the only one that thinks the eyelashy scarves look messy? Or is that just my obsessiveness coming out?

If you haven't seen the special issue of Knitty, make sure you go check it out! Breast Cancer affects so many people, either directly, or indirectly... I loved this issue of Knitty.

My two big kidlets will be here any second for their lunch, so I had better move it!

    Saturday Check-In

My dd & I ventured out a couple of hours ago to do a little shopping... this was a pretty big deal because we were in the midst of another big snowstorm, and I really am petrified of driving in the snow. But, we managed alright...

I've been desperate to get to the LYS, so I think that was a big shove out the door today. Unfortunately, my DH (and everyone else that he works with), have lost their salary pay, and are going to be paid hourly instead. This means no guaranteed income, and also means quite a bit of a loss of income due to snowy days... So, at the store, I could only afford to buy enough for one project. Oh well. We'll just have to do what we can with what we have - and maybe I'll have to look for part time evening work...

What I did buy was this:

2 skeins of Online Linie 131 Fantasy Yarn, made in Turkey. It's actually very pretty for fuzzy, eyelashy stuff, and I'm pretty sure that the intended recipient of the finished scarf will like it. It's already been dubbed the Movie Star Scarf...

    To Do List

The following is my knit to do list... No names or where these things are headed simply because I want it to be at least a sort of surprise...

  • Baby Ugg Booties & Matching Ear Flap Hat
  • Harry Potter Scarf
  • Fur-trimmed Poncho
  • Scarf & matching Wristwarmers (2)
  • Wristwarmers & matching hat
  • Eros-type scarf
  • Eyelash-type scarf

And of course, I must finish my kimono wrap.

I was asked about whipping up some scarves or baby-type stuff for a craft fair in December - but I want to finish the list first... And I'm not sure how I feel about that, exactly...

So, I posted the list as an accountability thing... Help me stick to it, okay?

    Good Morning!

Doesn't Rhinebeck look like it was lots of fun? I would love to go to something like that! I wonder if I would have the courage to talk to my fellow bloggers?

We still have snow here - although last night the weatherman said it could very well be gone by Halloween. The roads are a disaster - there were over 240 reported accidents yesterday! I just want it to warm up a little - it's minus 6 degrees this morning...

On Sunday we were at Walmart, and I picked up a ball of Bernat Baby stuff, thinking I would try my hand at a baby bonnet... Future neices or nephews is why I began to knit - and then saw there was a whole world of knit possiblities... Last night I sat down to knit it, thinking I would whip it up in no time at all...

Well, that'll teach me. I'm only 4 rows along and it looks funny. It's supposed to have the scalloped edge - and it has tons of increases and decreases, but it just doesn't look right. I can't decide if I'm going to frog it, or keep trying. It sure requires a lot of attention. I'm also, admittedly, my own worst enemy - I expect to be able to do stuff perfect on the first go round. But this morning while staring at it, I'm thinking I'm not far enough along to knit something like that yet.... Maybe after another cup of coffee and I'll be able to look at it with a clearer head.

I love to read other people's blogs to see what other people are knitting - there's so many talented knitters out there in blogging land! It's so inspirational to a newbie. And it makes knitting that much more addictive! :)

I must be off - wishing you a terrific Tuesday!

    Just Because

With my fingers itching to be holding a pair of needles, I looked in my stash, and saw I still had a ball of the Bernat Boa that I used for Missy's scarf. So this afternoon I made Abbi a matching hat.... I tried to take a picture, but it's so dark in our apartment when it's not sunshiney, that it didn't turn out well... Can I just say how much I really dislike knitting with that stuff?!? What a pain in the butt! Oh well - Abs is thrilled & that's all that matters.

Robert has asked me to knit him a pair of wrist bands. If anyone has any suggestions of where to point me to a pattern or ideas for that, please let me know...

And just a few seconds ago, I pointed my web cam out the patio door to take a picture of the snow. We don't have much - nothing like North of us! But we're supposed to get our "accumulation" tonight & tomorrow. If we get a significant amount, I'll post another photo.... Winter has arrived in Calgary! [Oooh, we turned the heat on yesterday, too...]

    About My Tattoos...

Alyx asked about my tattoos, which I just noticed... I'm not very observant am I? I do try, but, there's usually 1, 000 things going on around me at once... But of course, if you have kidlets, you already know that!

I have two tattoos. My first one is a small heart on my left ankle with my first initial & dh's first initial intertwined. Very tiny. My second tattoo is on my lower back and it's a yellow rose... It's quite a bit bigger.

I am longing for a third tattoo (they are addictive, you know!), but I'm not sure what - or where exactly I'd put it. Something Celtic? Something to do with being a mom? They're so personal & intimate to me - an expression of who I am....

    We've Been Waiting...

For the snow to come, and this evening it's snowing... Yes, you read that right - snow! It's so windy it's just blowing around right now, but I think if the wind settles down at all we'll have an inch or two stuck to the ground before the weekend is over. And it's so cold...

My knitting is on hold as I've run out of wool and won't be able to get more until Monday. Dh worked today, so no car to use. Oh well. I've set a deadline to have the pieces blocked out by next Friday.

Robert & Abbi have no school on Monday due to a 'Time Banked' Day. So we're going to make kitchen sink cookies, and the kidlets have decided that they want to make their dad fireplace starters as a Christmas gift. I thought that was a nice idea that he would like. And the kidlets will like making them...

I just wanted to say Thanks to Donna and Alyx for leaving me a comment to let me know they read my blog! Thanks so much! :)

    Have a nice Saturday night!

    I'm Back From The Garden...

Did you ever sing that song when you were little? Everybody hates me, nobody likes me, I'm going to the garden to eat worms... Well, I'm done with the worrying about subscribers, I have other things I can worry about. I just wish that if I have offended someone, I 'd get the chance to apologize...

I have been dragging out the last 20 rows of the back piece of my kimono wrap. I can't get to the LYS until this weekend, and it just feels wrong to sit down and not have knitting in my hands. So, I don't want to be left empty-handed...

It's grey and rainy-ish here today - and apparently it's going to get cold. A good day for hot chocolate and snuggles under the blanket with Matthew!
